Unroll.Me Will End Your Email Subscription Woes

I am assuming that you all have been using your personal email account for a while now. I am also assuming that most of you use Gmail. Along the way, your personal email inbox started getting flooded because of you subscribing to email newsletters. What could you do? The web boomed and every other hot web property wanted you to sign in with your email. They loved sending you emails about what they were doing, new offers, issues etc. In this current age of information overload, you will realize that every other mail that you get from all these companies is irritating you to the core. Indeed, a lot of effort and sanity is wasted in deleting them, especially if you like to check out the latest apps and services. I have been having that problem for sometime now and I was waiting for a tool which could save me from the misery. I found one in Lifehacker. This is a web-app that has been receiving rave reviews around all the US tech circles. So I decided to try it out.

Unroll.me from Q.Choi on Vimeo.

It is called Unroll.me and works in a very unique and simple manner. Put your email address in, allow the app permission to scan your mails and then let it do its job. So what does it do? It collects all the subscription mails in your inbox and bunches them together in terms of sender email address. Like say, all Snapdeal mails I get are marked under Snapdeal. That’s it! The app then gives me an option to either unsubscribe or let the mail go directly to inbox. If you unsubscribe, don’t worry! Future mails from these addresses will only go to your unsubscribed folder on Unroll.Me. You can add them back if you want.

The simple and elegant guide to the web-app

The really appealing part about the app is it adds all these subscription mails which you don’t want to unsubscribe from to a special folder called ‘Rollup’. You can then set the time for the rollup delivery as Morning, Afternoon or Evening. This depends on you and when you want to check these mails. Based on the time you selected for the delivery, you will get a daily rollup email which will have all the new subscription mails. It is amazing what this simple thing can do. It  effectively destroys the distraction you face when an unimportant email comes along during your work. Then depending on your time you can review the rollup mail at your leisure. I have to say that I am extremely happy with the way the app works. Also the user interface is stunning in its simplicity.

Daily Rollup Mail

Well, many of you will raise the issue that the app needs access to your personal or work e-mail. That is true and cannot be avoided since the app requires this to function. In the case of concerns of privacy, you should read their terms carefully. Secondly, it is a pretty legit company which has been receiving some good press and hence I am fairly certain that there will be no intentional privacy issues. The service currently supports Gmail and Google Apps users. Support for other email services might be added soon. Mobile apps are also on the way for iOS and Android.

Final Thoughts:

This is an excellent web-app and absolutely excels at what it sets out to do. You should definitely give it a spin if you have a ton of subscription emails driving you mad.
